The course was originally 9 holes and progressed to 12 holes in 1995.

Southerndown is a hidden gem, unique in offering part sandy links and part acid-heathland, and due to its terrain it is one of the driest courses to be found throughout the land. We offerall-year-round golf being rarely closed to members and visitors alike. Southerndown is the nearest championship links-style course to the Celtic Manor resort. Founded in 1905, we have a wealth of tradition.

Whitchurch (Cardiff) Golf Club lies three and a half miles north of the City of Cardiff. The Clubhouse and Golf Course are situated on elevated ground overlooking Cardiff City, with Penarth Headprominently visible and the Somerset Coast and Bristol Channel completing a grand panorama. The course is sheltered from the north by the Wenallt Hills and guarding these hills stands Castell Coch, an historical thirteenth century castle, reconstructed into a fantastical folly.
