Merthyr Tydfil Golf Club was formed on the 20th November 1909 when ten local businessmen met at the Bush Hotel in Merthyr Tydfil. They decided to call the club "Cilsanws Golf Club (Cefn Coed)". At thesame time they decided to engage Mr. Bradbeer, the professional at Pontypridd, for a fee of one Guinea to meet them on Cilsanws Mountain to discuss the Designing and building of the course.

Situated in the upper Swansea Valley overlooking the small town of Pontardawe, this impeccably manicured, picturesque golf course offers a unique location for playing golf. The course is set at 600feet above sea level and is semi-parkland. At just over 6100 yards and par 70, the course provides an excellent challenge for all standards of golfers. The course has a few gentle inclines, but the walk is well worth the effort as the golfer is treated to spectacular panoramic views.
Founded in 1908, and although not long, measuring 5345 yards, 5002 yards for ladies on our forward tees (5825 off blue tees) it provides a stern but enjoyable test of golf.
